Sunday 18 May 2008: Cathead

Not only for boat owners but also scuba divers love our the surrounding waters of the Frisian Islands. Hundreds of shipwrecks are well within reach of a serious equipped diving team. Our Terschelling diving team 'Ecuador' discovered a few years ago the wreck of the Italian schooner 'Fernanda'. Lost roughly hundred years ago on our dangerous coast. On both sides of the bow there were two beams to secure the anchors. These beams had sculptures on the end and were called Catheads. The picture shows clearly why. Both Catheads were recovered from the wreck by our diving team.
