Monday 26 September 2011: Tales From The Riverbank

3 p.m. The Quarry, Shrewsbury, Shropshire

Sat on the bank of the River Severn reading the final chapter of Pete Postlethwaite's autobiography A Spectacle Of Dust. It seemed so apt as he spoke of his final days looking out onto the Shropshire Hills where he had made his home for the last twenty years or more and me a just a mile or so walk from the hospital where I was born and where he died just over nine months ago.

Here is a tribute from Mark Kermode which talks up a film that was so dear to his heart, Brassed Off and especially Danny's speech.
