Packing at the Louvre

Today was our one full day in Paris this trip, and we went to the Louvre--on the first Sunday of the month it's free, and so we saved 20 euros.

On our way out, from the stairway below the Winged Victory, I spied this view--apparently a selection of sculptures being prepared for packing. The wooden crates are the sort of packaging used for any substantial works of art.

We specifically had sought out two temporary exhibitions of works on paper, ending this weekend--the first-ever show of their manuscript illuminations (12th to 16th centuries), and works from the early decades of prints and drawings in Italy, in the late 1400's. Esoteric indeed, but fascinating for us.
