punting on the river thames

punting is a bit strange as it involves using a long and heavy pole to steer a boat down or up a river. as freshers, we were invited to try it out as one of those ginormous group outings. it's probably not the most efficient way of transporting oneself nowadays. but it is charming. and oxford has been nothing but charming in the few days that i have lived here. sometimes i wonder, is this real? and yes, it is. induction/orientation starts tomorrow so i will finally learn more about my program and my fellow coursemates. exciting times to come!
