The National

The National Hotel is a self proclaimed 'icon of style and sophistication since 1939' in Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, and I wouldn't argue with it.

We've stayed here before enjoying it's art deco detailing, and this pool is one of its delights (205 ft long - there is another one at the far end). I was lucky enough to have time to come along for a pool side lunch today, slipping of my shoes and socks and wishing I could join the happy bathers!

Sometimes a little effort brings an oasis of tranquility in a busy life and stopping to savour it (and the good fortune that makes it possible), makes it worth the detour.
