AFTERNOON TEA AT THE CONNAUGHT HOTEL, MAYFAIR

MY TRIP TO LONDON

SATURDAY 15TH OCTOBER

Becky and Mike called for me at my hotel at 10am and we went to Starbucks in Hounslow for breakfast. Did a bit of shopping then Becky and I went back to my hotel to get changed in preparation for our trip to Mayfair.

It's Becky's birthday this week so as a treat I had booked afternoon tea at 5 Star Connaught Hotel. So we got the tube from Hounslow to Green Park and walked to the hotel. Its a really grand hotel with a lovely ambiance.

They serve afternoon tea in Espelette - a very nice room at the front of the hotel and Becky and I were seated by a window. The place was packed and there was a good buzz - everyone enjoying themselves.

The " tea" itself was everything we had hoped for - delicious sandwiches, then melt in the mouth scones with jam and clotted cream. There was a choice of jams - I chose raspberry and violet and Becky chose rhubarb and vanilla. Then there were 6 perfect little cakes and pastries between us. Delicious. We thought that was it but then the waiter brought a huge slice of chocolate cake and a slice of tea loaf. Must admit we couldn't actually eat either of those.

Becky had chosen Bangkok tea to go with her food and I had pomegranate tea. Becky also had a glass of champagne. Because the reason for our visit was a birthday celebration the waiter then produced a "celebration plate". It was a huge white plate with "Happy Birthday" written on it in chocolate. There was also a little cake and some berries. Becky was thrilled with it.

After all this deliciousness we decided that a stroll in the fresh air would be a good idea so we walked to Hammersmith and then got 2 tubes back to Hounslow. We would have got the train but due to engineering work they weren't running that day.

Back to Becky and Mikes for a relaxing evening and then to my hotel for the night.
