Tuesday 18 October 2011: The Pennine Tower
Better known as Forton Services on the M6 between J32 and J33, it opened in January 1965 and the tower originally housed a restaurant which is now closed. The tower has not been open to the public since 1989, health and safety legislation caused its closure because of the difficulties of evacuation.
I drive past this about 3 times each week and it is funny how I have grown to take it for granted, it is probably one of the most recognisable services on the motorway network.
