Private Lives at the Royal Alex

Noel Coward's Private Lives is playing at the Royal Alexandra Theatre (the Royal Alex to us locals) - Toronto's premier and only Royal theatre. We also have some other fine ancient and fully-restored masterpieces in Canon Theatre (formerly The Pantages) and the last-of-its-kind-in-the-world intact and stacked Elgin and Winter Garden Theatres. . We also have the ancient and venerable Massey Hall which is in good shape but is a concert hall, not a playhouse.

The play was wonderful and funny and starred Kim Cattrall and Paul Gross. It was my first time at the Royal Alex. It's a wonderful place. I've wanted to go for decades but something always came up then they started hosting long-run wretched musicals like Mama Mia! which went on for years and years and years. If you like it, fine. I do not and thus couldn't go. Finally, I decided to take a personal day and see the place, the play, and some fine actors. Glad I did. Private Lives is off to Broadway - kit and kaboodle at the end of the month. Break a leg!
