uphill scuttle

We had a voucher, so took the boy to the zoo before it ran out. He could have done with an extra sleep in the morning (having only a short nap in the backpack at about half-past three), but otherwise mostly seemed to like it. It wasn't too busy and there weren't too many hyper-sweary chainsmoking families but still a few instances of viewing-nooks being temporarily inaccessible due to clouds of fagsmokes. There were the inevitable few overhearings of people referring to things which were not monkeys as monkeys and the usual fairly low hit-rate of visible animals where they're not confined to a tiny area with no hiding-places but it was worth the discounted entry price. He was starting to get tired and stroppy around penguin procession time so wasn't really watching it; I've always avoided it when I've been there previously so have no idea if a total of eight participants across two species is considered good, bad or average.
