Public Holiday

A public holiday today in Rio today, when many people go to the cemetries to pay respect to and maintain the graves of the dead. The market was still on the go and I love the comfort of the place, the way its regularity marks the passage of time, the familiarity with the people, and the sheer handiness of getting a supply of fruit in for the week. So many slices of freshly cut-open fruit are pressed on you as you walk round that you can easily get your 'five a day' for nothing! We don't, though, always coming away with bagfuls of bananas, mangoes, papaya, strawberries, grapes, and fruta de Conde.
