Clix : Aperture Wide Shut

Winds of Change.

Horsey Windpump today on a pretty blustery but blue skied and sunny day.

This shot was taken from the gantry at the very top of the Wind "Mill". This gantry allows you to stand outside of the cap of the tower and examine / fix the fantail that turns the top of the windmill into the direction of the wind.

I'm not sure I would be too happy mending aspects of the mill hundreds of feet of the ground in high winds.

Sorry, hummed and thought about this and changed the original shot to one where I had tripod mounted the camera and placed the sun behind the windmill. Then did an underexposed HDR shot. The original fantail picture can be seen here.

This particular windmill is Horsey Windpump and doesn't mill grain for flour but was used to pump water. Not that it looks any different from what everyone's idea of a windmill is. It is maintained by the National Trust and my wee 3 year old girl loved it. So much so she climbed all the way to the top even though the steps were steep and quite scary.

I did have to carry her the whole way down though as it looked a lot more scary once she was looking back down rather then pointing up!

Across Norfolk you can see many wind turbines that rather than pumping water now pump electrons. Interesting to see the contrast between what was viewed as an ancient worthless technology being held up as one of the saviours of our future.
