Wednesday 2 November 2011: That moment of stillness...

614/365: ... after which all is noise and chaos.

[details of editing in a bit]

... but the stillness is still worth savouring. And the chance to see dawn rise, though getting up pre-dawn is hard work, is one of the few bonuses of commuting. Obviously the traffic jams I headed into in Sheffield which had been preceded by a mysterious change of weather from bright into brrrr as I crossed into Derbyshire weren't quite so special. I'm still glad I stopped by the side of the road and took a minute to myself.

The rest of the day was full to bursting. Meetings a-plenty as ever, but all productive which is good. Didn't quite manage to carve out the time I needed to do a whole load of stuff which is lurking on my to-do list... but for a Wednesday it slid itself onto the 'okay' pile. Hooray!

When I got home, the kids had turned the sitting room upside down. 'We were playing', says Maddy. 'Mmmm', I reply - no energy to say anything terribly much after mind-numbing commuting. The tally of damage was as follows:

1. Lego scattered around all edges of the room and even under the rug
2. Apple juice spilled on the carpet
3. Damson jam on the sofa
4. Cushions. Scattered. Everywhere.

Nice work, kids!

Forgot to mention - big day for Felix - he's finished Kindergarten and gone into the 'main' school. He's now with the class teacher he'll have until he leaves the school and it's the start of a whole new bit for him. To be honest, he's been itching to move for weeks, but I'm sad he's finished Kindergarten. It was such a special, calm place for both him and Maddy Moo. Oh, and Maddy Moo has gone into 'I like school now' mode and is scoffing her way through books at a rate of knots (read 'Fantastic Mr Fox' and 'The Magic Finger' tonight) and even... *touches wood* joining in!!

PS They're now singing 'what shall we do with the drunken sailor' in the bath
PPS They may be moving on with school stuff... but they're both still crackers.
