Saturday 12 November 2011: The Scottish Cemetery, Calcutta

I visited here two years ago , when it was almost entirely overgrown. Now most of the vegetation has been cleared and discussions are taking place about how a restoration could go forward perhaps involving craft students from the Scottish Church College , which I also visited today.

The Cemetery contains so many fascinating and touching stories. It is also an extraordinary symbol of the long lasting relationship between this city and Scotland. SCRAN , RCHMS and Historic Scotland are all involved in making sure it survives and is better known in both places.
