Saturday 12 November 2011: Messing about on the...

624/365: ... Mere.

Ellesmere, that is. Where we spent most of the day because Nick's installing a sculpture there in the next few weeks and it's beautiful. Have never been there before, but it's lovely. Am sure his sculpture will be happy in its new home. :o)

Talking of happy, the kids were generally happy for most of the day. While we were there anyway. The bit where we were getting to Ellesmere... had been in the car for the best part of two hours... and were almost there having dipped into Wales, back into England, into Wales and then back to England... with Ellesmere on the horizon. And then Felix started to say he felt sick. Fortunately, we pulled over, gave him some fresh air, walked up and down a bit. He felt fine and we got back in the car. Then carried on. He started to yell and grump about being sick to which Nick replied, 'I am NOT stopping now... we're nearly there!!!!', with all the 'aaargh' that a long journey with young children brings out in a parent.

And immediately after, Felix lost his breakfast.

All of it.

*shudder*

Soooooo... we hosed down and survived that bit. Got to Ellesmere. Had a picnic. Went for a walk while Nick sorted out some bits for his sculpture. The kids ran around. Got stung by nettles. Ran around some more. Got wet feet by going too close to the water. Squelched about. Y'know. Had fun!

After that, off to Chester (saw some hunters en route with v.scary determined expressions on their faces) for Nick to sort out another of his sculptures. Sadly, the gate to the churchyard where his sculpture is located was locked. Undeterred, Nick climbed the fence, the kids crawled under... fixed the sculpture... and I sat in the car, like a complete coward! My inner panic was going 'it's locked for a reason, we'll get told off!!!'.

Home late. Curry for dinner. Tired children shoe-horned into bed.

Yay Saturdays!

PS Yes, I am that wet.
PPS Give me a 'keep off the grass' sign, and I'll be the only person adhering to it!
PPPS *hangs head in frightened shame*
