Wednesday 31 August 2011: The Vaulted Ceiling Of Brioud Cathedral
This the vaulted ceiling of the cathedral "Basilica of St. Julien" in Brioude, Haute-Loire department in the Auvergne region in south-central France. It is the largest Romanesque church in the area a very pretty.
The whole building is made up of beautiful polychromatic stone, mostly in the reds - the picture doesn't have colour cast - everything really is that red. The stunning abstract stained glass windows aren't really shown at their best, but you can imagine...
The town is pretty small and nondescript but if you are ever in the area do make a point of visiting the cathedral.
