Bat Bones

The university has a small museum of natural history that has no permanent home. Once in awhile they secure an exhibit space, and today was a lucky day--the public was treated to bones and bugs, mushrooms, taxidermy and native plants. Cases and cases of stunning butterflies from all over the world--knockout colors and patterns in more combinations than you could ever count, most of them collected by one man who donated his findings to the university. Skulls from lots of local creatures, and this exquisite skeleton of a bat, whose wing bones are as thin as threads. It takes my breath away. You can see my hands and my trusty pocket camera reflected in the glass.
