Tuesday 22 November 2011: Re-Supply
The guys from the ships are seen here bartering with the local fruit and vegetable man.
Each ship gets a weekly allowance and its up to each ships representative to get the best deal for their money.
The ships in question are know by the navy as the Italian Hotels.
They were purchased in 2009 and were operational for only 6 months.
The chief engineer was telling me this morning that 15 men were sent to Italy to purchase the ships but somewhere along the way the guys in question disappeared with 2 million dollars.
The ships arrived on time in Iraq minus the 15 representatives from the Iraq Ministry of Defence but they had substandard engines, hence them only lasting for 6 months.
Iraq is trying to locate a dry dock at present so they can begin to re-commision the ships with a better engine system.
Another tale out of the hundreds i have heard over the years of people scarpering with Iraqs money.
Quite sad really.
