Rara avis

For weeks, Tanja has been stressing about the whereabouts of some finds from a site that is soon to be published. Today, we found the missing box, located in a corner where it definitely wasn't last week. Hmmmm.... we suspect that a certain Person in Management may have discovered it at his home (which he had adamantly denied was possible) and snuck it back into the store while I was away last week.

Anywayup, one of the treasures contained therein was this right humerus; it is about the length of your thumb and comes from a 15th century context (as I recall).

A rare bird, indeed..I doubt I will ever see another bone from a Pinguinus impennis. Driven to extinction in the early 19th century, this bone is from the Great Auk.
