Went into the NCDL in West Calder today. There was a 1 year old heinz 57 varieties pooch that seemed to take to us - and us to him. So we took him out for a walk to see how things went... One placid, doughy eyed boy turned into bit of a maniac and he just about pulled our arms off. It was fairly obvious that he hadn't had any training at all in his wee life so far- and we had to just be honest with ourselves and say that a) we don't have enough time to devote what he needs and b) we don't have the ability to reverse some of his bad habits. It wasn't to be.

Later on- I had the misfortune to witness half an episode of Poker Face - the latest TV show to confirm the decline of British society - and have me recalculating my points total on the Australian Immigration web site. (Well I would if it wasn't for the fact that Poker Face was originally syndicated from an Australian show called The Con Test.)

It's a programme straight from the "Get Rich Quick Shows" chapter of the "TV by Numbers" textbook.

Contestants begin by answering a few general knowledge questions. This is, however, a mere diversion which subsequently becomes totally irrelevant. -Merit goes AWOL when they enter a poker-like round where they bluff, lie and cheat their way to winning the cash. (Think Deal or No Deal crossed with Who wants to be a millionaire crossed with good old Machiavellian office politicking). It's cringeable stuff that leaves you embarrassed for the contestants (well to a certain extent). To top it off it's presented by Ant and Dec (see aforementioned textbook for chapter on casting). Wrong, wrong, all wrong.
