Amos Benson House & Heritage White Oak Trees

We were lucky today to find an amazing group of white oak trees which are part of the city's Heritage Tree program. This 1910 home and property in Portland, Oregon were once owned by Amos Benson, son of Simon Benson, who was a wealthy lumber baron and philanthropist. The property is located at 7654 N. Crawford, overlooking the Willamette River, and was built in 1910 in the Colonial Revival style. Currently it is the home of Open Meadow High School, an alternative school in Portland.

The white oak trees (3 of them) are known as Quercus Garryana and they are # 198,199,200 in the list of heritage trees here in the city. Some of these trees get to be 200 feet tall. It was amazing to see the huge limbs as some of them were actually touching the ground! What treasures!!
