One Up

This is One Up records, Aberdeen's longest running (if that is the right word), independent record store. Musically inclusive, One Up Records stocks any, everything and what ever else might exist in between. Looking for blues, rock, jazz, hip-hop, dance, pop, rock, or oldies? They've got it. Looking for another random music label? Still got it. Drop by one afternoon to sift through vinyls, memorabilia, or used CDs while listening to an impromptu set by a local musician.
It started life as a second hand L.P. stall inside the long, defunct Happy Trails clothing shop on Rosemount Viaduct in the late seventies.
It then move half a block up the street, when it's owner and still proprietor, Raymond Bird, decided to expand and stock new releases also.
After several years a second shop was opened in George Street, when the current joint boss, Fred Craig, joined and ran the second one.
Later on Rosemount closed and opened in Diamond Street.
Eventually both shops closed and their current 3 floor premises in Belmont Street opened.
Truly a special shop.
I have known Fred and , and Edinburgh born Ray for ever, I even occasionally worked there on a Saturday when it was in Rosemount.
Ray used to say that he was only going to be in business until he was 30 and then find something else to do. He is now the same age as me, closer to 60 then 30, and is still at the helm, but behind the scenes.
