Interesting Orb

The clock tower in the centre of Brighton now forms the mainstay of the a very pretty set of festive lights.

Built by John Johnson in 1888 to commemorate Queen Victoria's 1887 Golden Jubilee, the tower was restored 2002. Made of pink granite and limestone, it features medallion mosaics of Victoria and Albert.

In addition, the orb, just visible at the top f the photo and built by electrical engineer Magnus Volk (of Volks Railway and Daddy Long Legs fame) , rises on the hour.

I wasn't aware of this until after taking the picture otherwise I'd have hung around and watched what happened at 5pm. I guess I need to go back.
