Sgwarnog: In the Field

Portait of a Young Filmmaker

The excuse of my mother's birthday saw the family gather from various parts of Lancashire, Yorkshire and North Wales for a meal at the Black Horse in Brighouse.

Given the torrential rain and hail of the morning, and the fact that it was near dark by the time we left Brighouse, the gathering itself provided the main photo opportunities. My nephew Owen was obliging enough to subject himself to a portrait. Given that he's making his way in the world as a filmmaker, he would have done a much better job of this himself. I struggled with the low light indoors, and I've gone with mono as the Christmas decor was a little too distracting, but it's not too awful.

You can see a portfolio of Owen's work here or here. He starts shooting as Director of Photography for a remake of the 1941 classic The Ghost Train in a couple of weeks time, filming at Haworth on the Keighley and Worth Valley line, so watch for him in the credits soon.

STOP PRESS: It's started snowing, but will it still be here in the morning for the first snow blip of the season? In case not, here's a first glimpse. One year ago: we had snow.
