Marbled Godwit Feeding

This morning we were at Bunche Beach, not far from our apartment on Fort Myers Beach FL.

The featured birds, beyond what we'd seen already, were Marbled Godwits (Limosa fedoa) and Wimbrels. This was the best of some 180 shots, of just one individual from each species--basically very cooperative, but they were constantly actively feeding. Usually what they pluck from the water or pull from the sand disappears in a nanosecond, but here I caught the bird with its prey--perhaps a sandworm.

View it large to really see the worm :)

My all-time favorite image of a shorebird feeding is this piping plover with a large sandworm, at Allens Pond in Massachusetts.
