PHENOMENON

This continues my efforts with the Black billed gulls. Its quite a phenomenon! the gull flies along scooping along the top of the water. The water enters the mouth scooping in the bottom and out through the top. you can see this action in the pic. I have to assume they are getting some sort of food off the top ?

It was an interesting time at the Estuary today. Two things - a gull stuck with its feet in an obstruction - me taking my shoes and sox off and wading to the rescue. Then a team of Shags working the herrings by driving them along the shags feeding as they went - The Black billed wins the day.
