North Adelaide

I heard about this street long time ago, but it took me nearly 3 years to find it. It isn't a little, hidden path, Melbourne Street is quite long and full of nice restaurants, bars etc. we drive through it once and it felt like being in a strange city, discovering new sites. Today I walked through it for a few minutes.

Pictured above are Deepacers. Built in 1941-1942 these flats were designed by Jack Hobbs McConnell for Jennifer Jolly. The building is one of the earliest examples of modernist architecture in South Australia, featuring the austerity and minimalism of external planar surfaces, a flat roof, metal framed windows and asymmetrical planning.

And no, I haven't read up on the history of the street, just took a photo of a little plaque.
