The north side

The north side of the peninsula is a lot more rugged than the south side - there are no villages, no pubs and only very small roads - the main one is called the Goats Path for very good reason. The views across to the Beara are spectacular. The Beara is wilder with bigger mountains but it also gets much worse weather than we do and here's a bit hurtling down Bantry Bay. Worth biggifying as there is a nice cluster of ruins amongst all that green.

This is the view from Russell's old house. He is the chap who has a barn full of old settles and today we took our trailer over the mountain to get one. It was incredibly heavy and quite large and now we have it home we are not sure where to put it! Himself says it can't come in the house as it's woodwormy! It's not a thing of huge beauty but it's got character, and history. There were also two sugan chairs lying neglected in the dirt and I took them as well. Sugan chairs are traditional Irish chairs with rush seats. Charlie, his son, will get six lessons in exhange - fair swap!

We have also put up the Christmas tree - the lights worked, and made the nut roasts. No eclipse for us as we're too far west.
