an itching in my thumbs

parking lot sunset

i stopped over by davidson yard (one of Union Pacific's few hump yards in the United States) to photograph the trains at sunset. the temperature was perfect, long sleeves rolled up, a skirt, and a scarf and the air was just right.

i can hear the trains at davidson yard from my house, easily (we are maybe 1/2 mile from it, maximum). at night the effort as the machinery at the yard pushes them uphill toward their eventual descent makes this noise altogether like whalesong. i love trains and so living so nearby is a pleasure. much better than living by the BART tracks in san francisco.

anyway, trains aside. this cactus was thriving, clearly. i couldn't pass it up.

i don't think of fort worth as an industrial town because it doesn't have much in the way of factories. but the town was built on the railroad and the cattle market and both of these things are still thriving here today, giving it this great feeling of being in two worlds - old and new.
