Memento mori

Despite their woolly coats and docile natures, the lot of a sheep is not always a happy one. Fluke, gid, scrapie, pink eye, scours and maggots are only some of the ills their flesh is heir to; wet weather does not suit them; giving birth is fraught with risk, while crows and ravens wait to peck the eyes of newborn lambs and foxes take advantage of the sickly.

So perhaps they do not need this reminder of their mortality.

NB This shot was not contrived in any way: while photographing the skull in situ I looked up to find myself under ovine observation.

[Although I did feel like death warmed up yesterday all your good wishes worked a treat and today I am almost back on form. Thank you so much.]
