Atlantic Explorer

Stop. This isn't just 'another' ship. This is one of the world' s leading seismic survey vessels.

The Atlantic Explorer has a far more interesting view from the rear end

The Atlantic Explorer flies the Bahamian flag and as far as I can tell, wasn't built to win races. Fairly slow, at her service speed of 7.9 knots, she is better known for her brains. Built in 1987 and owned and operated by Petroleum Geo Services, the Atlantic Explorer was one of the first in the world to process all the seismic data she collects, on board. Must have some big laptops in there.

See her seismic floats and the machinery on her (yes) poop deck

Please don't ask me if I know what is below her heli-pad

Yesterday's blip was cropped from a similar shot. Do you think they can watch TV with all that wireless comms gear?

And if you must see today's blip in colour...

I have shot this ship over two days, but today's journal entry was shot today. I dare say, the results with my Nikon lens are superior. The EOS7D came with a very poor kit lens.

So then, ... another entry in a ship spotter's journal. Thanks for reading this far :)
