Wednesday 14 December 2011: Scottish National Portrait Gallery
Took a wander in to the recently re-opened Scottish National Portrait Gallery this morning. My first visit since the refurbishment.
What a superb building, what inspirational use of space. The secondary glazing and lighting in the cafe (where we headed first for much needed sustenance before heading to our tour) gave grounds for some discussion, as one who is of course in the middle of a project of more modest domestic proportions.
We spent so long hob-nobbing over coffee and enjoying the space that there was only time for a brief visit to see the 'Hot Scots' portraits, a quick ride in the amazing glass lift and a whizz round some of the photography exhibits. But even that small glimpse of the collection was enough to invigorate my interest in the photographic collection. I will return to this gallery often.
