Sunday 18 December 2011: Crafty Sunday...
660/365: ... and I now have 'needle claw' from sewing felt decorations for most of the day!
It's been full on crafty stuff today which is a rare treat but lots of fun. I've made a load of little felt hearts to go on the tree* - some under the command of Felix who objected LOUDLY to me sewing buttons on them and wanted little inner hearts of felt instead. But, I merrily ignored him for the majority and overall they're kinda pretty.
I also 'felt decorationed' a couple of the kids' drawings. Felix drew a fish - though it started out as a shark and he just couldn't get the shark sharky enough. 'It looks like an aeroplane!!!' he wailed as he drew what actually looked more like a squashed poo. With a bit of encouragement he carried on and his resulting shark / fish decoration is kinda sweet. Maddy drew a gingerbread man and it looks a little bit sinister but again, I bet in a year or two I'll be glad I did it! Maddy also made a decoration for her teacher - and I have discovered that I am an expert at untangling / unknotting / undoing in the process!
What else? Hmmm... Nick and Felix made a Christmas wreath (and used some of the dried orange slices from the other day) and it's now on our door outside. The kids also made some Christmas cards. For which read 'there's now glitter everywhere and will be until around about July next year'.
That's about it! A pottering about Sunday (and also two years to the day since we moved into our house).
Am an expert potterer!
PS Some how I managed to lose a needle during the day
PPS Look out for the 'needle in foot' blip later in the week... ;o)
* Dead simple. Draw heart on card, cut out and draw round on some felt. Cut out a front and back (decorate one outwards-facing side with buttons / felt bits / whatever you fancy). Sew together using a blanket stitch, stop when 3/4 of the way around and use cotton wool for padding, add in a ribbon to hang and finish off sewing. Done!
