Tuesday 20 December 2011: Watch under!!

A resting stilt is about to get a very big fright if this red bill gull doesn't alter its flight path - air traffic control not on the job perhaps?

I don't know if others have found it so, but there seem to be fewer birds at the estuary this year, and they are widely scattered. I think with all the liquefaction that has come up and made islands that even at high tide there are roosting spots where the birds are hard to see - good for them I suppose, not so good for photos.

I certainly haven't seen big flocks of godwits around - has anyone else?
