Wednesday 2 July 2008: You want WHAT??
This is the door handle on my local bank where I popped in to get some of MY money at lunchtime. It's an old building and I guess the thinking at the time was let's instill fear in the savers who have the temerity to come in asking for some of their money back. Light years away from the friendly banter I have with the crew at First Direct. Mark Twain famously said "A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining, but wants it back the minute it begins to rain". I don't think the founding fathers of my local bank would have lent you the umbrella in the first place!
