what comes down must go up

There are a massive amount of old buildings in New Zealand that will be torn down in New Zealand in the next 10 years or so because they are not deemed to be up to the earthquake ratings and not worth fixing. Despite it being for a good reason, a huge amount of our urban character risks being lost. My only consolation is we seem to be going through a fairly poetic period of architecture where character might be found somewhere other than age.
