And for dessert...

I threw this together for a pudding tonight - it's just a layer of fruit (in this case cranberries and blueberries) baked in batter. Essentially a French country dessert, I've always known it as clafoutis but now I find that strictly speaking the name should be reserved for the original version made with cherries. When made with any other fruit it is known as flaugnarde, a name 'is derived from the Occitan words fleunhe and flaunhard which both translate as "soft" or "downy". The dish is common in the Auvergne, Limousin and Périgord regions of France.' (Blipping leads to so many fresh discoveries.)

Anyway, the pudding went down well after spaghetti and meatballs, and since the tub of cream was spilled all over the floor at the end of the meal the cats enjoyed a bonus too.

Cooking advice: you can find plenty of recipes for this on the internet but since I tend to be fairly frugal I suggest that 2 eggs are enough (in this case for 5 people) rather than the four usually recommended. A variety of fruit can be used according to season. It's simple, economical and delicious.
