Monday 26 December 2011: Boxing Day in an Argyll Garden

We have not even glimpsed the sun or any blue sky since Friday just grey cloud , rain and wind over the Christmas weekend. A slight interlude in the downpours this morning allowed me to get out into the garden for a few moments , something I haven't been able to do in daylight for weeks, given how often I am away.

There are trees down over the stream and all the bushes have been shredded by the gales. The ground is sodden and , as no serious gardening ever gets done in an election year, the whole place needs a good "redding out" as they say.

But the weather has also been a factor in 2011. Lets hope we have a better summer in 2012 - certainly better than this year or its immediate predecessors which were also very poor (though not as wet as this must have been a record year in Argyll for rain and lack of sunshine)

A cold dry spell now would be even more welcome , but it is not on the forecast horizon alas.
