Saturday 5 July 2008: Custard Apple

It seems that there are many varieties of this exotic fruit, which I have not encountered before. This specific one grows and prospers in my neighbour's garden.
When I tasted the white flesh, it was quite a surprise, as it has a very agreeable,sweet, pleasant taste, but not overpowering in flavour ,which slightly reminds of custard, I guess....

This specific variety is green, heart shaped, but they can also be oblong, irregular in shape and even present in different colours.

It seems to prefer areas of low elevation and a warm, humid climate.
