Was It Really So Long Ago

One Hundred Steps

It is fortunate that at the top of such a vast number of steps, there lies a park bench. Fortunate, as it has made the legs of a girl of a tender age, very tired indeed.

As we sat, resting on the bench I asked whether she had counted all of the steps, from the pond at the bottom, to the common at the top.

"No Daddy, I did not!" She replied without hesitation. "But for my legs to be this tired, there must be at least one hundred."

There can be no retort other than agreement, and so we meandered across the common, to the grandparents for a long lounge on the sofa, with The Little Einsteins.

I hope you like it.
