Today we visited Aigues-Mortes established by St Louis..he was a king before he became a saint.. on the swamps of the Camargue in the 13th century from which he embarked on the Seventh Crusade.Not quite so noble perhaps but after a spot of shopping, lunch of moules marinieres, frites and a carafe of rose we walk the 1.6 kilometres or so of the old city ramparts.Without doubt a tad voyeuristic and a bird's eye view of an enclosed town and amongst the back gardens and secret lanes the lives of the everyday.
