Winter morning..

Winter sun and cloud over East Lothian - looking east from Blackford Hill.

When my mother-in-law was in the WAAF in World War 2, she was posted from the south of England to RAF East Fortune. RAF East Fortune was a flying training establishment, eventually becoming base for a group of de Havilland Mosquito aircraft.

She was in the Met Office and had to take an interest in these very clouds. Their processes were simple and elegant. Her job was to phone the Coastguard in North Berwick and ask whether he could see the Isle of May. If the answer was "No" flying operations were suspended.
