Friday 30 December 2011: Challenging circumstances
We often drive through the Chilterns where we spot Red Kites wheeling over the M40, beautiful and spectacular birds which are starting to come in for a lot of stick by the stupid humans who think they are threatening. Today we stopped off to try to photograph them - in the surreal and slightly creepy village of West Wycombe. I'm sure it's not usually creepy, but on a very flat grey and rainy day, and after visiting the extremely spooky "Hell Fire Caves" it appeared so.
There were only two kites around, both very much silhouetted against the flat grey sky. It wasn't the attempt I wanted it to be, but still quite awesome to be so close to their slow and graceful drifting.
