Saturday 12 July 2008: The Killing of a Giant

Today, my daughter, Cecile and I went to the Oyster Festival in Knysna, about 1 hour's drive away from George. My husband did the rugby watching thing, after which he joined us on his GS.
Unfortunately, due to inclement weather, it seemed that most of the Festival's participants had started packing up, as the Festival was due to end tomorrow, in any way!
Nonetheless, we really made an outing of the occasion, blipping and watching, and blipping. Many interesting blips were made, but the one I am puiblishing is really awesome in appearance. Unfortunately, many cycles, Harleys, etc were parkerd around it, which really put a restriction on the blip ...

On the plaque beneath the sculpture, it says:

Cupressacae, Cypress Family

This magnificent tree was felled in January 2001 on the site of the Russel Hotel in Long Street, Knysna. This is the inverted lower section of the trunk with the root system aloft.

Truly a lovely interesting sculpture ...
