Friday 6 January 2012: Aqmat

Aqmat, daughter of Hagagu
Descendent of Zebida
Descendent of Ma'an
Alas!

Is what the Aramaic inscription says. In Palmyra families were buried together, with ridiculously lifelike portraits guaranteeing them safe existence in the afterlife. Aqmat looked exactly like this funerary bust of her...I guess. I'm hoping the nose job was post mortem.

This is at the V&A, downstairs in the very early period.
