Tuesday 10 January 2012: another?
This little pub at the end of our road has always had a very appealing look to it. It maybe the rather overt message subliminally sinking deep into my brain, or that it just looks quaint, but it always make me smile. It's certainly a very upfront way to advertise, like all other Irish villages there are a lot of pubs to choose from - we have 6 in a fairly small village, so competition is fierce.
Ireland has the dubious credit for being the country that has most alcoholics per head and the most amount of teetotallers per head.
Himself and I went in there in the summer for the first time, hoping for the old traditional Irish experience. Not a hope > flat screen TV with football playing and the wall to wall modern refurb just completed and not a soul in sight other than the barman. But to be fair it was early, only about 10pm - and it does all start very late in West Cork.
