Tuesday 10 January 2012: No User Serviceable Parts Inside
One of the less than enthralling characteristics of products that Steve Jobs left his mark upon was his insistance that users shouldn't be able to get inide his products to do such naughty things as....changing the battery. Of course Apple are more than happy to provide a battery replacement service for you for the tidy sum of £55 plus £7.44 shipping.
Luckily for me there are plenty of people who supply replacement iPhone batteries (including a selection of ten different tools for opening the case, disconnecting connectors etc) for the sum of £3.99....delivered. All you need to supply is a bit of patience, some confidence and 30 minutes of your own time to save yourself £58.45.
Much as I admired the guy (and his products) I'm glad that the Steve Jobs approach to customer service isn't the only option available to users.
