Ashley River Rail Bridge

A warm summer's day in North Canterbury and Daughter E and I decided to take a little wander down to the Ashley river - a braided river in the lower reaches after making its way through the canyon of the Ashley Gorge. The Ashley river is to home to the Wrybill, a small, plump plover with a distinctive long black bill which is always curved to the right. The rail bridge was constructed in 1911. Further up the river many families were picnicing, swimming and enjoying the sun.

Thank you for your thoughtful comments, hearts and stars for yesterday's image and words for our neighbour Wladiza - she was a very special lady.

Will come back later to catch up with your journals but had better fly and get some tea, hubby will be home soon - chicken, salad and new potatoes from our garden, nice, easy and quick :)
