Saturday 14 January 2012: Wisterian wren

I know you'll all be mightily relieved that Ant managed to get through the whole of yesterday without any major damage, including suffocation by bubble wrap! (Thanks to KathM for implanting that worry in my head!) I should add that I'm ignoring the odd bruise from banging into walls and furniture *sigh*

I was planning on going to the Whittlesey Straw Bear Festival today but I overslept and the change in weather has made my joints painful and creaky, so with work to do this weekend, I decided to give it a miss today. I may go tomorrow, but in the meantime, you should check out Ashmeister's blip on the festival. I suspect there might also be a blip from the festival from another local friend later today; if there is, I'll add a link :) and rainbowtaylor's blip. If I am feeling up to it tomorrow, I'm hoping to meet up with Ash to watch the bear burn!

Although I slept in later than planned, our first frost of the year was still very evident around the garden. With a mug of tea ready for my return and wrapped up in warm black clothes from head to toe - a bit like a ninja - I braved outside. I took a load of frosty macro shots and was back inside warming up with the mug of tea when our resident wren appeared. I've not been able to get a clean shot of her until today, because she flits from branch to branch on our bonsai wisteria and the neighbour's overgrown buddleia, hardly staying still for a second. I had already tentatively chosen a frosty leaf shot, but when we realised that I had a focused shot of the wren, showing off her upright tail, the leaf was decategorised to 'I'll try to reproduce it again another day'.

Hope you're having a good weekend. I've got another half hour's work today and then I'll put my feet up for the night :)
