Waitaki Valley

Backblipped Sunday 15th January.....

.....in the far distance is Lake Benmore, behind us we have passed Lake Aviemore and Aviemore Dam, even further back Lake Waitaki & Waitaki Dam. We passed many campers alongside the lake and connecting rivers - this area is very popular as a holiday destination at this time of the year.....Kiwi's love camping and boating. We & our friends ave enjoyed many happy holidays with our children and their friends water skiing and wake boarding. A few more kilometres ahead is Oamarama, then through the Lindus Pass to Wanaka.....from home this trip takes 3 hours or there abouts....

I always love this country, it is so stark and remote. Recently it has become very very parched, the golden colours were amazing as were the clouds.

We are in Wanaka, preparing for a big weekend, birthday celebrations, hens doo, and then a garden wedding on Saturday afternoon. We are having such fun here - everyone enjoying each other company. A few wines, BBQ dinner, and a new card game which was a lot of fun.....betting with walnuts as no money!!!

Late to bed, then the heavens opened and it was tipping down as I was trying to sleep - a much needed rain for this area. Hoping for clearing skies for tomorrow.
