A good day for boatbuilders...

Today was the sailing club's big winter event. With the shipping forecast giving force 7 out in the channel it was always going to be 'interesting'.

Our race ended only 30 seconds after the start, when part of the boat decided it was all getting too much. Nothing expensive thankfully. More worrying, in the rush to be on time for the start the go pro camera mount broke against the sea wall and disappeared into the muddy waves. No time to look for it, I just had to wait for later and low tide... By the end of the race only 26, about a quarter, of the competitors finished. Most were onshore patching up bits of boats and trying to get warmed up again.

Thankfully a wander at low tide turned up the gopro, almost untouched apart from a small scratch on the corner of the waterproof case and still working fine. Not sure you could say the same for Mr Mackie's centreboard, the tip section in the photo above was lying on the foreshore amongst the other boaty debris of the day...
